(Not Travel Blogging)

But I liked this a lot, and wanted to share:

The sunset at the Oregon coast as we pulled in. This was the view from our balcony.

The view during the day from the beach. This pretty mound here is 'Proposal Rock'

Miles and miles or Oregon coast. It was a beautiful, sunny, warm day.

I should have named this blog, "Other people's cats who I want to steal and love forever but can't". My mom's cat, 'Audrey'. She is so cute, and so nice.

'O HAI WUT U DOIN' HEER'
I found my boyfriend at a truckstop. Our families collided over dinner. I was so happy see him for an hour and a half in the middle of Oregon.

Ferry, the first and the second.

Wednesday morning, 8am Ferry from Hollis, AK to Ketchikan, AK. One island (huge, but unpopulated) to another island (smaller, moderately populated). This is about a 3 hour trip. I got to listen to a couple of Blue Collar Dudes talk about the stock market, and conclude on a story about how one had gotten a letter from the NRDC, opened it, scrawled "Thank God we don't have a goddamn treehugger in the White House today!," and sent it back, postage unpaid. That's class.

The second, 2-day, ferry ride left from Ketchikan that evening. It looked like this -

We were onboard the Malaspina - originally built in the 50s, periodically updated.

A pretty large ship. 80-100 cars, 175 "Staterooms" (about 6'x10', 4 bunks and a bathroom). "Greasy Spoon" style cafeteria, crusty bar, and a gift shop.

People who don't want to pay for a room either sleep on lounge chairs inside, or set up tents on the top deck. This is, clearly, HardCore mode - sleeping outdoors for two nights on the top of an 8000 horsepower ship is how men are made, or so many a grandfather has said.

Some things from the trip -

Downtown Ketchikan, AK

Sunset on the first night.
In which I learn about Depth of Focus.

In which my Mom takes a picture.

Not a lot of headroom in the bunks. just under 2'...so much hitting the ceiling.

This is a Canadian lighthouse. Which is to say, this is proof that They are Watching. (All of the official Canadian maritime buildings seem to be designed like this - large, well built, with the red and white color scheme. It's a whole lot prettier and classier then our maritime buildings, which tend to just be...old...)

Tuesday the 7th

Left Whale Pass (for the last time?) on Tuesday, everything being loaded, loosely, into the far-too-large truck.

For those of you unfamiliar, this is downtown Whale Pass. I would bet good money that most of these vehicles are not, in fact, functional.

I'd also been asked about potholes - this gives an idea of what ~35 miles of roads from my house look like. There are...some potholes.

Tuesday, October 7

I've mostly been lazy (and slightly sick) and spending a lot of time on my mom's couch catching up on sleep, reading digg, doing a little homework...and online poker. I'm happy that that my family sort of lets me just lay and bum around. I almost feel guilty...but just being around is really nice, and when I get back to California I'll be grateful for the couch time. Tomorrow or Thursday I'll go visit my dad, grandma and hopefully catch up with my friend Brandy.

I did go visit my sister at work. She's a cute little waitress at a new coffee shop/wine bar.

Mmmmmm..tasty cheese/crackers, warm bread, hummus and olives. Some of my favorite foods. My mom and I bs'd while eating tasty appetizers.

Eating some cheese.

Not sure what I'm doing. Me, my mom, and sister all have similar glasses.
